Keynote Speaker

 

Christine Urish, PhD, OTR/L, BCMH is a member of the AOTA Commission on Continuing Competence and Professional Development, President of the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association and a Professor of OT at St. Ambrose University.

She is board certified as an occupational therapist in Mental Health. She has a PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Iowa and Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University.

Dr. Urish will discuss the enrichment of AOTA board Specialty Certifications and the impact that they can have on professional development over the lifespan of a career. Board certifications benefit practitioners, employers, and consumers and are ideal for practicing clinicians.

Deb Mosley, is an Occupational Therapist at St. Mary’s Health center, Evansville. She serves on the O.T. Legislative Committee and is in collaboration with the Indiana Professional Licensing Board concerning the licensure rules that are being finalized.

A. Portfolios – CYA for NBCOT:

             Creating A Professional

            Development Portfolio

Aimee J. Luebben, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA, Professor at the University of Southern Indiana will provide practical information about compiling a professional portfolio as part of the NBCOT re-certification process.

 

B. Response to Intervention

Debra Edwards, OTR, and Linda Kinkade, OTR, Indiana school will team to discuss definitions and purpose, RTI resources, and the difference between RTI and Early Intervening Services.

 

C. Community Service – Core Values and attitudes of OT Practice

Four faculty from University of Southern Indiana Team to bring participants an Understanding of service learning and relate how service learning is a core element in OT practice. USI faculty will share OT and OTA programs’ community service learning activities:

D. Assistive Technology – Specific technology discussed includes the Accessible Book Collection, the Smart Board, and Clicker 5

 Kristi Hape, MHS, OTR, will share how to improve access to print materials, how to use the Smart Board with moderate and severe populations, and how to develop writing independence with Clicker 5.

 

E. *ACOTE Fieldwork Site-specific objectives facilitate  using the new Education standards

Kathleen French, MHA, OTR, University of Southern Indiana OTA Fieldwork Coordinator will also discuss challenges for students and on-site supervisors. * Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education

 

F. Introduction to First Steps

Judy Hancock, MS, OTR, CIMI is in private practice as a First Steps independent provider. Participants will be introduced in how to participate in the First Steps process and discuss the latest changes in the service delivery model being used.

  • Exhibit Area is open for exhibit setup at 7:00 am the day of the conference
  • We request that exhibits remain open until at least the beginning of the first breakout session at 1:00pm.

  • No refund will be available from 14 days (04/26/08) prior to conference date
