Join the IOTA Mental Health SIS for our rescheduled event: Identity Crisis: A Journey from Therapist to Patient on Tuesday, April 2nd from 7-8pm EST/6-7pmCST. Amy Turner MHPE, OTR, CHT graduated in 1994 with her BS in OT from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. After graduation, she worked in Washington D.C. and Bethesda, Maryland for the National Rehabilitation Hospital, developing a hand therapy program while working closely with local hand surgeons. Following her passion for hand therapy, Amy moved to Indiana to join the prestigious Indiana Shoulder to Hand Center in Indianapolis. During her time there, she was fortunate enough to lecture at Hand Care and was a contributing author for The Diagnosis and Treatment Manual for Physicians and Therapists. Throughout her twenty-six-year career, Amy has lectured extensively throughout the U.S. and Guatemala on various topics including wrist pathology, functional casting, sensory testing, shoulder dysfunction, clinical reasoning, and treatment of the stiff hand. Amy went on to receive her Masters in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2007. Since then, she has devoted much of her time to serving the people of Guatemala through her work with the Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation (GHHF), in Africa with the Grain of Rice Project (GORP), and locally as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children. In April 2020, Amy’s health required her early “retirement” from the world of Occupational Therapy. She now spends her time attempting to reinvent herself and find her new purpose in life.
