Unconscious, or implicit, biases exist within all of us, and they affect how we engage with the world around us. These biases can often result in further marginalizing minoritized groups. This presentation, adapted from AOTA’s Addressing Unconscious Bias modules, will create opportunities for participants to better understand what biases they have and how they may be impacting colleagues, clients, and other community members. Through education, reflection, and group discussion, participants will be able to define bias and category types, discuss environmental examples of unconscious bias, and identify the impact of implicit and explicit biases in case studies and their own practice.
